Derek Powazek: Rose Petals
Credit where credit is due... Derek Powazek took the "roses on the city hall steps" picture that I've been using as a backdrop here for the last few months. When I put the picture up, the San Francisco gay marriage boom had just taken off and I wanted to show my support with all my heart. Derek captured that time in a brilliant series of photos that you can find here. I grabbed the roses backdrop off the web... I'm wondering, was it from the San Francisco Chronicle? No matter, I ripped and ran with it. Creative borrowing or perhaps theft...
The roses picture is so popular that Derek is selling it in a poster, "Justly Married: San Francisco, February 2004." The picture is beautiful, both within and without its historical context. Buy a poster.
Sometime soon in the interest of change and growth, I'll replace Derek's shot with one of my own... a New York east Village brick and firescapes scene most likely, a slavish imitation of Anne Galloway. But I hope you enjoy Derek's backdrop while it's still here and I hope you'll support his work by buying a poster.
