What noble cause
Compels us now
To send our children
Off to war?
What cause condones
This sea of blood
On foreign sands?
How is our freedom thus secured?
When children’s’ battered bodies lie
In shallow craters filled with blood
When “shock and awe” obscures the truth
Of martyred children sacrificed for oil
Upon an altar
And policies that
Are justified to tell the world
That what we do is for some greater good.
How many mothers’ children lost?
How many children’s mothers killed?
Before we will speak out to say
Not in our name
This evil done
To innocents and foe alike
These misbegotten acts of war
Against our own best values stand
As blots upon our country’s soul.
